About Our Club
Building a strong community through youth soccer for more than 30 years
Garrison City F.C. was formed in 1984 by a group of passionate parents and fans who wanted to bring the game of soccer to the youth of Dover and our surrounding communities. Originally called Dover Soccer Association (DSA), the club changed its name to Garrison City F.C. in 2019 to both honor Dover’s history as the ‘Garrison City’ and to reflect the changing face of the sport regionally, nationally, and across the globe.
We are an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that provides various opportunities for competitive and recreational soccer emphasizing player development, teamwork, and sportsmanship above all else.
Our Stages of Play
We offer various stages of play for your child. Our goal as an organization is to produce competent soccer players that can eventually compete at the high school level and beyond. Programs are available for all ages, including Wee Kickers (U4-U5), Academy (U6-U8), and competitive Travel Teams (U9-U19).
Wee Kickers is run and managed by our partners at the University of New Hampshire, while our Academy and Travel programs are run by a team of passionate volunteers with training curriculum and oversight provided by our own licensed coaches and UNH. This partnership provides optimal development at the grassroots stages of play from professionals with deep, international soccer experience.
We work with local middle and high school programs on player development training and skills-based camps and clinics to prepare players for the next levels of competition.
What's in a Name?
Dover is known as the Garrison City, dating back to the 1630’s when settlers built fortified log houses called garrisons. Incorporating this rich history was important to us.
“F.C.” is a nod to the international game of “futbol” or, in the US, soccer. Teams around the world use the abbreviation “FC” or “futbol club” (ie, FC Barcelona, Liverpool FC, etc) as part of their identity and association with the sport.
The logo is a shield typical of soccer clubs with green and white stripes to link our travel soccer uniform design, but turned vertical to indicate fortification - a further play off of the garrison theme. The cannon is a nod to locations around Dover that host these symbols of our past, including but not limited to our own Woodman Museum.
